kindofpersonal:

Obligatory “I lost my Occupy virginity today” post. I’m doing a proper write-up for a proper movement on my proper blog, but my tumbloves get a preview of course <3

OCCUPY PITTSBURGH, DAY 44

I visited the Occupy Pittsburgh site for the first time today. I have spent the past week intensely investigating the Occupy movements around the world in my attempt to understand the movement, what it represents, and its goals. I wish more people who do not understand the Occupy movement would educate themselves on these things before ridiculing the protestors for just being “dirty hippies who need to shower.” I can assure you that this generalization is 100% false.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by three characters whose personalities were as warm as they were dressed for the chill of the late November afternoon. To my surprise, though, the site seemed to be occupied by more empty tents than people. “It’s kind of quiet right now,” one of the folks explained, “most of our people are at work or class this time of day.” The number one misconception of the people who make up the Occupy movement had already been defied: that these protestors are simply lazy citizens who are just angry at the rich because they can’t get a job.”

Will post the finished write-up tomorrow <3
